Ricerca, formazione e prevenzione

The Venerable Archconfraternity of the Misericordia of Florence is a voluntary association that has been rescuing, caring for and transporting the sick, elderly and suffering since 1244. Also engaged in the social sector to curb poverty and marginalization, the Misericordia with its eight centuries of history probably constitutes the oldest voluntary association in the world. It counts more than 1,400 volunteers of all ages who spontaneously give their time to help others.

Food Aid

Food Aid is a service created to help people in need by supporting them with the free supply of essential food items. Those who do not have the opportunity to travel to the two distribution centers receive food at their homes. Over the years this service has grown to be the fundamental support for hundreds of families in the city.

The social health service

Among the best-known and best-loved activities of the Misericordia, social and health services are fundamental to the care and movement of patients in the area. This area also includes all activities related to the city’s annual sports, traditional and sociocultural events. Participants will be able, as a team with our volunteers, to take part in the social-health transportation services, as escorts, of the disabled, elderly and sick.

The Misericordia Museum

The new Misericordia Museum is located on the top floor of the Headquarters. It collects and displays the works of art that have been donated by the citizens of Florence over the centuries to support the association and tells the long history of Misericordia, from the past to the present. Combined with the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, it welcomes thousands of visitors from all over the world each year.
